About Our Project

The first grade classes at Jack Memorial have been learning about Tide Pools. We visited Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth, Maine where our teacher, Mrs McAlpin, went scuba diving and brought creatures to the shore for us to see and touch. Before our trip we had some different ideas of what we would find there.

We took digital pictures with a Sony Mavica camera of the creatures. Then the pictures were cropped and resized with Graphic Converter on a Macintosh computer.
We drew some pictures and scanned them with a Canon scanner. Mrs Gauley helped gather everything together to make web pages. She uses HTML code with SimpleText on a Mac.
We also drew some pictures using a program called KidPix. We used the iMac in our classroom. Mrs Gauley exported them from KidPix so that they could be used on our web pages.

We wrote e-mail to some friends about what we found in our tide pools and they answered our questions about what they found. We learned where their countries were on the globe and we made our own globes from paper grocery bags.
